Company Profile

Power Climber History
Power Climber designed and manufactured its first traction hoist in 1972, in Los Angeles, California. This new hoist was an immediate success and set a higher standard in traction hoist design. Sold throughout the USA, sales of the new hoist quickly grew to include several export markets, notably in Australia, Belgium, Singapore and the UK.

Power Climber opened its first overseas subsidiary in Antwerp, Belgium in 1983, making it responsible for marketing Power Climber products outside North America. This new branch also became a major development centre and in 1985 launched the world famous Astro hoist, the first and only traction hoist with multiple, built-in safety devices.

The 90's was a time of rapid product evolution at Power Climber. Building on our successful platforms for temporary access, new products were developed to meet the increasing demand for permanent maintenance systems for window cleaning applications: A full range of self-powered BMU platforms and subsequently, complete BMU installations, incorporating davits & sockets, roof cars and monorail systems.

At the same time Power Climber also developed considerable expertise in the design of specialised access platforms for industry. Working directly with engineers in each field, Power Climber has manufactured complete systems for accessing bridges, cooling towers, power stations, silos, chimneys and other special structures.

In October 1997, Power Climber was acquired by a newly formed group, Safeworks LLC. Headquartered in Seattle, the Safeworks group brings together several access companies (see list below) to create a major force in the access industry. The vision of the Safeworks group is to be: "the premier global provider of safe and efficient access solutions".

For many years, Asia has been a very important market for Power Climber. In April 1998, Power Climber opened its new Asia branch, Power Climber Asia Limited. Based in Hong Kong, Power Climber Asia is strategically located to provide sales, service and technical support to Power Climber's growing customer base in this important region of the world.

For the new Millennium, Safeworks took a major step in becoming an integrated provider of access solutions by acquiring the manufacturer of the Satellite range of mast climbing equipment, located in Newcastle, UK.

Now for the first time, one manufacturer can offer its customers the choice between these two complementary access solutions: suspended platforms and mast climbing work platforms.
