Traction Hoists

Power Climber is a world leader in the manufacture of electric and pneumatic traction hoists for man riding applications. We design and build into every traction hoist the durability, versatility and serviceability, critical to getting the job done, without downtime.

The Power Climber family of hoists include

Astro hoist: heavy duty hoist
PC400: compact, light weight hoist

Unlimited working height: Power Climber wire rope climbing traction hoists, can go up several hundred meters of steel wire rope, allowing access to even the highest structures.

Controlled descent: all Power Climber hoists are equipped with controlled descent to lower the platform in case of power failure. The manual release to the electro mechanical brake allows the hoist to descent at a controlled speed that is LOWER than normal operating speed.

Traction principle: Power Climber hoists work by winding the wire rope once over a traction sheave (or pulley). The traction sheave holds the wire rope whilst the pressure rollers ensure the positive traction of the wire rope on the sheave.

This unique system is load dependent: the more load on the hoist, the more pressure is applied by the rollers, the more friction between the wire rope and the traction sheave.

Safe and Dependable: Power Climber hoists have been approved for man riding application by safety authorities all over the world, notably CE (EN1808) approval for Europe and UL approval for North America.

Powerful and Versatile: Power Climber hoists are very efficient, which allows them to operate at very low amperage. Power Climber hoists are available in a variety of electrical motors, single phase, three phase, 50Hz, 60Hz.
Astro hoists are also available with air motors for use in industries where electrical equipment is prohibited due to fire hazard (e.g. tank farms, oil refineries, silos, etc).
Air hoists are also used in remote location where air compressors are used (e.g. on board ships, power stations, etc.).

Easy Maintenance: Power Climber hoists are designed specifically with the 'user in mind', especially when it comes to maintenance. All that is required is to clean the hoist and inspect for wear and replace parts if necessary:

  • EASY to disassemble and reassemble with hassle-free fitting parts
  • NO special tools required
  • NO grease points

Manufacturing Quality: Power Climber hoists are manufactured to the highest standards of quality to ensure reliability and durability.

Our hoists are manufactured with:

  • Cast aluminium housings
  • Stainless steel crews, nuts, bolts
  • Stainless steel mounting plates

High quality electrical controls:

  • First class electrical components
  • Professional finish of wiring layout
  • Individually marked wires for easy identification

  • Emergency stop

ASTRO

The world famous Astro hoist is a robust, heavy-duty hoist, ideal for use in any suspended platform application.

It is unique in the industry in that it features multiple built-in safety devices as standard:

  • Top limit switch
  • Overspeed safety device acting on suspension rope with electrical interlock
  • Slack rope safety device acting on safety rope and acting as a self-sufficient mechanical tilt limiting safety device.
  • Enhanced safety with two complementary fall arrest safety devices
  • Enhanced safety with built-in safety devices, safety devices cannot be badly installed or forgotten.
  • Reduced installation time
  • Innovative design for cost effective manufacture, gives value for money by reducing the number of parts for the complete hoist+safety device assembly

More features:

  • Traction chain with multiple rollers to minimise wire rope wear
  • Automatically accepts multiple wire rope diameters from 8mm to 10mm
  • Smooth self-reeving through the hoist
  • High efficiency Quadrant Drive gearbox to minimize power requirement
